Trond and Børre Berg are naming the new purse seiner/seine netter they have ordered after their father. Due to be delivered in August 2023, Jarle Berg is a Skipskompetanse design and will be built at Larsnes Mek Verksted as the yard’s newbuild nr 72 for fishing company Jarle Bergs Sønner AS.
The contracts for the design and construction have just been announced, and this SK-3151 design is the latest in a series of vessels built at Larsnes Mek to Skipskompetanse designs, including Nord-Fugløy, which is currently in build.
According to Skipskompetanse, Jarle Berg will feature many of the same ideas and arrangements as Nord-Fugløy, also incorporating the owners’ ideas and their operating profile, as they also run shore-based processing.
The 50.70 metre, 12 metre breadth Jarle Berg will have a 499 cubic metre tank capacity with both RSW capacity and options for carrying live fish, plus freezing capacity and a processing deck.
Trond and Børre Berg were looking for a vessel capable of carrying a crew of up to 14 in comfortable accommodation, and an energy system optimised for low carbon emissions, incorporated into an innovative design.
These requirements have resulted in an optimised hull design, a large-diameter propeller, a two-step reduction gear and a propulsion layout that includes a variable speed generator, and a 1mW/hour battery pack, plus a take-me-home fallback system
