ICES has updated its advice for North Sea fish stocks, notably saithe, haddock and cod.
The quota recommendation is for a substantial increase in saithe of 140,653 tonnes, which is 24,000 tonnes higher than the advice issued in the spring of this year.
Advice for cod is largely unchanged, while there is a figure of 39,461 tonnes advised for haddock and there was no haddock recommendation in the spring.
The updates are in accordance with an agreement on the advice for the North Sea that was set out in the spring. The agreement states that ICES, in cases where it conducted research in the third quarter, would update advice in November if recruitment indices differ from the forecasts.
