Organisers of the Nor-Fishing exhibition in Trondheim, planned for 18th-21st August, have announced that this year’s exhibition has been cancelled.
The decision to cancel the event has been taken out of the hands of the Nor-Fishing Foundation, as the Norwegian government has extended to 1st September its prohibition on gathering of more than 500 people.
The Nor-Fishing Foundation has also decided against a postponement to May next year, an option that had been under consideration.
‘The feedback shows that it is not relevant for a large number of the exhibitors. In addition, it will clash with many other trade fairs nationally and internationally. The Foundation has consequently concluded that a postponement to May 2021 is not a viable option,’ the organisers state.
The Nor-Fishing Foundation is now looking at the possibility of organising a digital version of Nor-Fishing 2020. It has already been decided that the Student Day will be conducted as a webinar and there may be other parts of this year’s exhibition that can be carried out digitally.
Hotel bookings made through G Travel will be automatically cancelled. G Travel will not charge any costs as this is considered a force majeure situation.
Numerous industry events have been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Seafood Expo Global in Brussels has now been cancelled, after a provisional new date had been announced and then withdrawn. The Irish Skipper Expo has been shifted to the 4-5th September and the Scottish Skipper Expo is now scheduled for 13-14th November.
Seafood Expo North America in Boston has been re-scheduled for 23rd-24th September, clashing directly with IceFish (23rd-25th September) in Reykjavík and hard on the heels of Seafood Expo Russia in St Petersburg, 21st-23rd September – all of which are currently scheduled to go ahead as planned.
IceFish organiser Mercator Media has reiterated that its event is proceeding as planned.
‘The event is still six months away and we are progressing positively with arrangements to deliver the event, working closely with our partners in Iceland in line with their developing stance towards the outbreak,’ a spokesperson for Mercator Media said.
‘As ever our primary concern is the health and safety of our exhibitors, visitors and staff. Mercator Media Limited will implement advice from global health authorities such as the World Health Organisation as well as the national and local authorities. Our experienced team continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates in the run up to the event.’
