‘We spend a decent part of every trip searching for saithe in amounts that are worth fishing. That’s something that hasn’t been very successful, but there’s no problem taking our allocation of golden redfish and cod,’ said Magnús Kristjánsson, skipper of one of HB Grandi’s fresher trawlers.
Sturlaugur H Böðvarsson is currently fishing on the Boðagrunn grounds and have been searching for saithe since the trip started on Monday.
‘Ásbjörn landed a good trip of saithe when they were fishing the spring tide a few days ago, but there hasn’t been much saithe to be seen since then. But we’ll keep on searching even though we could easily finish the trip on cod and golden redfish. We avoid haddock like the plague and the silver smelt are in deeper water,‘ Magnús Kristjánsson said.
There are hardly any other fishing vessels in the same grounds as Sturlaugur H Böðvarsson at the moment, but there is a sizeable fleet on the deep sea redfish areas out on the Reykjanes Ridge. Magnús Kristjánsson and his crew are scheduled to be in port on Friday.
