Following extensive refurbishment of the Newlyn Fish Market by ProjectLink, phase one is now open and trading, with the first sales taking place in the revamped part of the building last week.
The refurbishment work has been carried out by ProjectLink as an initiative to create a state-of-the-art fish auction for Newlyn. This includes constructing an office and welfare complex in the northern end of the building, including a boardroom, offices, toilets and meeting areas.
The roof of the building has been replaced, the interior is lined with insulated, hygienic coldstore panels and the entire market is now temperature controlled.
The exterior walls of the market are a mixture of Cornish granite, rendered concrete blockwork and vertical planking.
The walls will ultimately be decorated with murals from local schools and artists.
The old concrete floor has been coated with a 10mm Monile product. This is a new floor coating product from RPM, which has been specifically designed to be hard wearing in constantly wet environments… such as the fish market.
Phase two of the market refurbishment has already commenced and the project as a whole is due for completion in September 2018.
