The appointment of Andrew Pascoe as the new Chairman of the NFFO, has been confirmed at a meeting of the NFFO Executive Committee, held immediately after the AGM.
Andrew is an active fisherman from Cornwall who operates a operates a 6 metre hand-liner and a 12 metre inshore netter, as well as being owner of the 18 metre hake netter, Ajax.
‘I am both honoured and humbled by the confidence shown in me by the whole NFFO Executive. Being at the helm of the NFFO is an important responsibility at the best of times; but to be taking over just as we approach some of the most momentous decisions that our industry has faced for many decades and which will shape our future for many more, is a little daunting,’ the NFFO’s new Chairman.
‘On the other hand, I know that I will have the support and guidance of the whole Executive Committee and I am confident that they will keep me on the right track. My own experience reflects the diversity of our industry and I am determined that everyone in it should have the opportunity for their voices to be heard. Wherever on the coast you operate from and whatever the size of your vessel, or the gear that you use, your place is in the NFFO as part of a strong organisation fighting for our collective interests.’
He paid tribute to outgoing NFFO chairman Mike Cohen, commenting that he has brought an eloquence and dazzling intelligence to our industry that will be sorely missed.
‘I personally hope that his departure from the industry will be temporary and that we will see home back playing a central role before long. I would also like to thank Tony Delahunty for agreeing to stay on as President. I know that I can will be rely on Tony’s wise counsel in the months and years ahead.’
