More waters of Gulf of Mexico have been reopened by the US authority. Fact shows that it is 2,927 more square miles of the Gulf of Mexico off eastern Louisiana to commercial and recreational fishing Tuesday, the eighth such move since July 22.
in a total 90 percent of federal waters are now open to fishing, less than six months after the massive oil spill touched off by the April explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon offshore rig. The latest area reopened to fishing is directly south and southwest of East Bay. The area, where no oil or sheen has been documented since July 31, is about 40 miles south of the Deepwater Horizon wellhead.
According to NOAA the testing of fish from the reopened area continue and it will do dockside sampling to test the catch of commercial fisherman throughout the Gulf. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said that the authority is looking forward to reopening more federal waters, as this provides greater access to commercial and recreational activities, and continues to build consumer confidence in Gulf seafood.
