Several Icelandic vessels have been fishing herring in Norwegian and international waters recently. The fish that is not processed at sea has been landed to Norwegian processors.
Two of HB Grandi’s vessels are currently queuing to land the 1100 tonnes of herring they have on board to factories in Norway.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, Ingunn AK is waiting to discharge 500 tonnes in Lødingen and Lundey NS is in a queue in Senjahåpen with 570 tonnes. This is fish that was caught on Friday, after which the weather worsened and remains bad.
Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson said today that there was a lot of herring on the auction market on Thursday and Friday last week and both vessels found themselves waiting to discharge their catches. Lundey was fifth in the queue at Lødingen on Saturday and Ingunn arrived at Senjahåpen yesterday morning. Both started to pump fish ashore last night.
According to Norges Sildesalgslag, 19,200 tonnes of herring were sold through the organisation’s auction last week and so far 670,000 tonnes of Atlanto-Scandian herring have been sold in Norway this year.
Faxi on the way to Vopnafjördur
Faxi RE was back on fishing grounds in Breidafjördur yesterday morning after steaming from Vopnafjördur. By midday Faxi already had 800 tonnes on board and is now steaming back to Vopnafjördur again and is due in port to land tonight. On Saturday 400 tonnes of frozen herring products were shipped out from the cold store in Vopnafjördur and Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson said that 1200 tonnes of fishmeal and fish oil are being shipped out today.
