Norwegian company Guleholmen has learned from the lessons of the DanFish exhibition two years ago, and this year is presenting a new range of oilskins – alongside the AIS transponders housed inside buoys that have been developed for the netting fleet.
This year Guleholmem has two quite different products on its stand at the exhibition, with both attracting attention.
‘The oilskins are new and this is the first time we have shown them at an exhibition,’ said Guleholmen’s Arthur Robertson.
‘We asked as many questions as we could, and these have been developed since DanFish in 2021, based in the opinions we got from customers. Around 50% wanted a hood – and around 50% definitely didn’t want a hood. So these come with a removable hood.’
Made in lightweight material, the trousers are reversible, so if the front wears out, they can be turned around to serve the other way, and are made with an internal pocket as well as an external pocket that comes with a vent to let any water out. The shoulder straps come with a silicone strip to ensure there’s no slippage.
The oilskin top is light and comfortable, and also comes with internal pockets. It also has neoprene cuffs to prevent any water making its way up the wearer’s sleeves.
‘So far we have sold these in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Faroes – and we’re just had our first order for these from the Netherlands,’ he said, commenting that the oilskins come in a L/XL and XXL/XXXL sizes that ensure there is a fit for practically everyone.
Guleholmen’s original product, the AIS buoys, is also doing well and these are no manufactured by Dan-Fender, produced to the initial design that has worked well without needing further adjustment. The AIS buoy is screwed into a cavity in the buoy that keeps it on the surface and fully protected from any contact with the side of a fishing vessel.
‘These have been supplied to users in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, as well as in Spain and the Netherlands,’Arthur Robertson said.
