The Government of Canada and the Province of Prince Edward Island announced a total contribution of $732,645 to eight shellfish growers and processing companies for new equipment and technologies to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness to support their expanding operations.

After 60,000 hours of service, crab fisherman Robert Ross decided that his 19-lire Cummins 1150M had earned a rest. The 500hp engine had been a perfect match for his 72 by 26-foot aluminium boat so he ordered up a new Cummins KTA19-M3 at 500hp, continuous duty, from his local supplier Cummins Sales and Service in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in eastern Canada.
The sale to the Hampiðjan Group has been concluded of Canadian fishing gear supplier North Atlantic Marine Services & Supply (NAMSS). The acquisition has been made by Hampiðjan’s Canadian subsidiary Hampidjan Canada, and this significantly strengthens the company’s position on the Canadian east coast.
The MSC certificate for the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence (SGOSL) snow crab trap fishery in Canada has been suspended by certifier SAI Global (SAIG). The certifier concluded that based on new information including the Incident Report on 2017 right whale mortalities in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the fishery no longer meets the MSC Fishery Standard related to Endangered, Threatened and Protected species.
Clearwater Seafoods has taken delivery of its newest vessel, a dedicated clam dredger delivered by the Astander yard in Spain, the result of an extensive conversion. The new clam catcher arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia last week.
