In an emoji-studded announcement on social media, Danish pelagic kingpin Henning Kjeldsen has announced that he’s had enough of the political pressure that he and his family have had to endure in recent years – and he has sold both the new vessel currently being built and all of his pelagic fishing rights.
He commented that he is tired of the witch hunt he states was initiated by figures within the governing Social Democrat Party and the Danish People’s Party – one now out of government and the other a minister – with the intention of crushing him.
‘Their mission succeeded!’ he states in his announcement. ‘Enough! I’ve got tired of this!’
He reports that the new Gitte Henning currently under construction at the Zamakona yard in Spain has been sold.
´This is without a doubt the most modern, green and economical pelagic vessel ever built. I wish the new owners every success and good fortune,‘ he said, adding that all of the pelagic quotas held by his company have been sold to six different operators.
Before people assume that they should not be able to sell what they have been allocated, he points out that these quotas were bought and paid for, with all the relevant taxes paid to the state.
Having disposed of his interests in pelagic fisheries, Henning Kjeldsen retains ownership in two fishing vessels, a share in a third and a newbuild on the way.
‘So we’ll still be fishing, but at a different level,’ Henning Kjeldsen announced.
