Flume Tank North Sea and the North Sea Science Park and have received the Initiative of the Year Award 2024 for their contribution to innovation and development in the fisheries sector.
This prestigious recognition is the Initiative of the Year Award 2024 from Fiskeriets Servicefag, which is a club under the Danish Fisherermen’s PO, awarded to companies or individuals who make an effort to keep Danish fisheries on the map.
This year, the award emphasises that contribution of innovation and development to the challenges facing the fishing industry, and this time the honour went to North Sea Science Park and Flume Tank North Sea, Europe’s largest flume tank for tests, development and displays of equipment for fishing, aquaculture and underwater technology.
‘The North Sea Science Park and the flume tank in Hirtshals play a crucial role in the development of fishing gear in Denmark. They allow us to test new equipment and at the same time act as a showcase for the progress being made in the sector,’ said Alfred Fisker Hansen, board member of Fiskeriets Servicefag.
‘Today, it’s not enough to just develop our gear – we also need to be able to show the world what we do. The Flume Tank is an important part of the overall effort to constantly develop and improve fishing gear. We need innovation and development in fisheries, but more importantly, we need someone to act and show the way forward – even in difficult times.’
North Sea Science Park CEO Hanne Kvist was in Thyborøn together with Business Development Manager Mette Hyldgaard Roussis to receive the award.
‘We are extremely pleased with this recognition from the fishing industry’s own organisation. In the North Sea Science Park, we have recently ensured that the operation and further development of the Flume Tank is on solid ground, and we hope that the primary sector, equipment manufacturers and the research world will use the flume tank to an even greater extent. We are ready to contribute to innovation and transformation in fisheries,’ Mette Hyldgaard Roussis commented.
The North Sea Science Park is a blue business park in Hirtshals that provides the physical framework for research, development and business within the blue industry. It regularly participates in development projects that promote the development of the fishing industry, Hirtshals and the blue sector as a whole.
