The Faroe Islands and Iceland have struck a fisheries agreement for next year that rolls over the terms of the 2024 agreement.
Faroese vessels maintain their quotas for 5600-tonne groundfish in Icelandic waters, including 2400 tonnes of cod and up to 400 tonnes of tusk, plus the Faroese fleet has 5% of the overall capelin quota shared between Iceland, Greeland and Norway, although not exceeding 30,000 tonnes.
Faroese and Icelandic pelagic vessels continue a reciprocal access to each other’s EEZs and can take an unlimited amount of their blue whiting and Atlanto-Scandian herring under this arrangement. In terms of direct exchanges, Iceland gets a 1300-tonne quota of Faroese mackerel.
