The covered dry dock in Hirtshals unexpectedly took on a 45° list on Friday, with a Norwegian pelagic vessel inside. Work is in progress to right the dock as soon as possible.
The incident at the 82 metre dock occurred on Friday, and according to Rasmus Brohus at Hirtshals Yard, it was fortunate hat here were no staff inside when this happened.
He said that there is no overview yet of any damage, but pumps are in place to get the dock back on an even keel and specialists have been brought in to help, while efforts are made to secure pelagic vessel Hardhaus which is inside.
The cause of the ‘North Sea Cathedral’ listing to one side is unknown but a similar incident is reported to have taken place during a storm in 2015.
