Icelandic tech company Héðinn has contracted to carry out a substantial upgrade to the Havsbrún fishmeal plant in Fuglafjørður.
This isn’t the first time that Havsbrún and Héðinn have worked together, and the two companies have a history of co-operation that goes back more than twenty years. Havsbrún was also among the first customers for Héðinn’s HPP protein plants.
This new contract is to develop mixing and storage silos, along with a transport system, as well as concrete foundations for the silos.
Héðinn is designing eight 40-metre high silos with a 10-metre diameter. These will weigh a total of around 600 tonnes empty – and 15,000 tonnes when fully loaded with fishmeal.
The majority of Havsbrún’s production goes to feed production for its parent company, salmon giant Bakkafrost.
