Three candidates from Greenland have graduated from the Icelandic College of Fisheries (Fisktækniskóli Íslands) after a six-week course in fish processing technology and procedures.
The college is located at Grindavík in south-western Iceland and has a growing reputation. The three Greenlanders, Lasse Abelsen, Angutivik Aimonsen and Marius Simonsen, are all from southern Greenland and work for Arctic Prime Fisheries.
They spent six weeks in Grindavík studying saltfish production, production techniques, hygiene, quality control procedures (HACCP), human resource management and marketing strategies, as well as related subjects in a course that was tailored to the needs of their workplace and to train them for roles in managing production.
Fisheries minister Thorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir presented them with their graduation certificates at the end of the course at an event that took place a the Ministry of Industry and Innovation, of which the fisheries brief is a part.
The three candidates are all from Nanortalik in southern Greenland where saltfish production is a major source of employment.
