France and Spain reactivate the Bilateral Joint Fisheries Committee

On Spain’s initiative, a Franco-Spanish Joint Fisheries Committee met in Madrid on April 13, 2018, for the first time since the creation of the Southern AC, under the co-chairmanship of the Secretary General of Fisheries, Alberto López-Asenjo, and the Director of Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture, Frédéric Gueudar Delahaye.

A French industry delegation led by Gérard Romiti composed of Serge Larzabal, Yves Foezon, Ludovic Le Roux and Nicolas Michelet participated.

The purpose of this special meeting was to prepare the albacore tuna fishing season, which will begin in a few weeks. The French albacore fleet will be able to count this year again on the provision by Spain of the medical support ship Juan de la Cosa.

This framework of exchange between administrations and industry will can be resumed again in the future to discuss subjects relevant to the fishing sector, without prejudicing issues that are discussed at advisory councils.
