There were over 7,000 boxes of whitefish on sale for the first two market days of last week May 30-31 at Peterhead Scotland’s main fishing port when all fish selections attracted good demands from buyers.
Haddock large made £131-£148 per 57kg box and Whiting made£97-£131 per 57 kg box.
On the first market of the week Monday saw Seven trawlers land a total of4252 boxes of white fish which sold at the following prices. Large Haddock £2.50-£2.80, Medium £2.50-£2.80, Cod Large £3.00-£3.50, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Metros £1.00-£1.30, Whiting £1.40-£2.50, Round Whiting £1.30-£2.00, No Lemon Sole., Monkfish £4.00-£5.50, Coley £1.10-£1.40, Megrims £3.00-£7.00, Plaice 65p-£1.50, Hake 80p-£2.00, Witches £1.50-£2.00, Ling £1.30-£2.00 and Squid £4.00-£7.00.
Trawlers Landed Tranquility, Helenus, Nordfjordr, Keila, Sagittarius, Defiant and Venturous.
The next day’s market Tuesday saw Six Trawlers land a total of 2930 boxes of whitefish selling at the following prices Cod Large £2.70-£3.50, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Haddock Large £2.30-£2.60, Medium £2.30-£2.60, Metros £1.10-£1.30, Round Whiting £1.60-£2.20, Whiting £1.70-£2.30, Lemon Sole £2.00-£4.50, Monkfish £4.00-£6.30, Coley £1.30-£1.40, Megrims £1.80-£6.00, Plaice ice 65p-£1.50, Hake £1.00-£2.00, Witches £1.00-£2.50, and Ling £1.40-£2.20.
Trawlers landed Russia Taign, Renown, Genesis, Minerva, Our Lass and Keila.
On Wednesday’s market Nine Trawlers landed a total of 4403 boxes of whitefish selling at Large Cod £2.70-£3.30, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Large Haddock £2.00-£2.50, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Metros £1.20-£1.50, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.50, Whiting £1.80-£2.30, Round Whiting £1.60-£2.20, Coley £1.20-£1.30, Monkfish £4.00-£5.30, Megrims £3.00-£5.50, Plaice 65p-£1.80, Ha hake £1.00-£2.00, Witches £1.00-£2.50 and Ling £1.60-£2.30.
Trawlers that day Summer Dawn, Golden Gain, Crystal River, Faithful, Sustain, Crystal Tide, Ocean Bounty, Golden Sceptre and Karen Ann.
The following day’s market Thursday Fifteen Trawlers landed a total of 5341 boxes of whitefish selling at theses prices. Cod Large £ 2.50-£3.30, Medium £2.40-£2.80, Haddock Large £2.50-£3.00-Medium £2.00-£2.50, Whiting £1.60-£2.00, Round Whiting 95p-£1.40, Metros £1.00-£1.30, Lemon Sole £1.00-£6.00, Monkfish £4.00-£5.30, Megrims £2.00-£7.70, Plaice W withdrawn £2.00, Hake £1.00-£2.10, Witches £1.30-£3.00 and Ling £1.10-£1.60.
Trawlers landed Surmoint, Glenugie, Aalshere, Atlantic Challenge, Achieve, Benarkle, Venturous, Moray Endeavor, Faith Bough, Crystal Tide, Zenith, Rosebloom, Boy John, Celestial Dawn and Prospect.
The last market day of the week Friday saw Fourteen trawlers land a total of 5754 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices Large Cod £2.50-£3.20, Medium £2.00-£2.80, Haddock Large £2.50-£3.00, medium £2.00-£2.70, Metros 65p-£1.00, Whiting £1.20-£2.00, Round Whiting 90p-£1.20, Lemon Sole £1.00-£6.00, Coley 90p-£1.10, Megrims £2.00-£7.50, Monkfish £4.00-£5.20, Plaice ice Withdrawn £1.50, Hake 60p-£2.30, Witches 50p-£2.00, Ling £1.00-£1.50 and Squid £5.10-£7.70.
Trawlers landed Constant Friend, Acorn, Searcher, Boy Andrew, Starlight, Starlight rays, Starlight, Nordfjordr, Helenus, Valhalla, Harvester, Ocean Harvest, Tranquilty, Sardonyx and Moremma.
At Peterhead Harbour market last week there were landings from 55 trawlers landing a total of 22,680 boxes of whitefish. There were two Pelagic landings of Herring.
At Fraserburgh over last week there were landings from 71 boats total 3,390 boxes of whitefish which sold for fair prices..
At Ullapool there was quite week with Three Spanish Liner/netters la landing 52 tonnes of mixed whitefish, while two Scottish Crabbers brought in 24 tonnes of Brown crab.
At Buckie Harbour 10 trawlers landed 497 boxes of whitefish, prawns and squid.
Scrabster Harbour saw 14 trawlers land a total of 3969 boxes of whitefish which sold for fair prices.
At Pittenweem Harbour there were good landings of prawns from the local prawn fleet which are fishing the grounds of the Firth of Forth and further Afield. Prices at Pittenweem fishing for the week were said to be good.
