Fish catches in October 2008

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in October 2008 was 91,411 tonnes compared to 98,133 tonnes in October 2007. Demersal species accounted for 40 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 11 thousand tonnes, redfish 11 thousand tonnes, haddock 7 thousand tonnes and saithe 6 thousand tonnes. The herring catch was 49 thousand tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 6.2% in October 2008 compared with October 2007. In the first 10 months of 2008 the volume decreased by 4.3% from the previous year
