Astilleros Armon has delivered the first of three freezer trawlers for Spanish owners designed to operate in west Africa to fish for shrimp and other demersal species.
The 29.50 metre, Jomafran Segundo has a beam of 8 metres and is laid out for trawling over the stern or from outriggers. It has been built for Pesqueras Alfonso, one of the companies represented by ANAMAR.
The three trawlers are expected to fish in the waters of Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, Angola, Morocco, Senegal and Congo, operating under both EU and private agreements, and to generate an estimated 270 jobs in the region.
According to the yard, Jomafran Segundo and its two sister vessels to be delivered later this year are designed to freeze catches to -30° on board, during trips of a month or more. The modern 716kW main engine and auxiliaries allow fishing to be conducted with lower fuel consumption and emissions than has been possible with older vessels.
Each trawler operates with a crew of up to 20.
