The new Pelagia Danmark processing plant in Skagen has taken delivery of its first landing, as Themis S-144 docked with a payload of Baltic sprat.

The new plant produces silage, which is subsequently shipped out in liquid form, as well as producing fish oil which is sold mainly on European markets.
‘We are already well underway and we have great expectations for the future. The location of the factory directly at the quay with 11 metres of water depth is a big advantage and there is space in this area for further development of the factory area,’ said Pelagia Denmark’s director Mogens Andersen.
The factory’s construction began in 2024 and it has been a busy few years to make it operational, during which there has been close contact between Pelagia and the Port of Skagen. The new plant is located in Stage 3 of the port expansion, which was completed in spring 2021, and is built on part of the 38,000 square metre plot owned by Pelagia Denmark. The area is located directly next to a 625-metre quay with excellent water depth.
‘We can be pleased that Pelagia Denmark has expanded its activities in Skagen. Pelagia’s statement of wanting to build was one of the cornerstones for the plans for Stage 3, so it is certainly good to see the factory in operation,’ commented Port of Skagen board chairman Niels Arnold Lund.
‘Maritime and food are two of the Frederikshavn Municipality’s growth tracks, which are being contributed to here. This strengthens the value chain around pelagic fishing and Skagen, as Denmark’s largest fishing port.’
