The Tersan Shipyard at Yalova in Turkey has started construction of the lead vessel in a series of crabbers for Russian company JSC Arktikservice, as part of the ST184 project. The new vessel is a Skipsteknisk design, developed with Marine Engineering Bureau.
The 61.90 metre LOA vessel has a 15 metre beam and is built in steel with an aluminium superstructure. It is designed to have a hold capacity of 11590 cubic metres. It will target primarily Kamchatka and opilio crab, fishing with traps at depths ranging from 20 to 400 metres, and processing catches on board. Its expected areas of operation are across North Atlantic waters.
The factory deck is expected to have a processing capacity of 30 tonnes per day when fishing on snow crab, or 60 tonnes per day when fishing for Kamchatka crab.
The crabber will be fitted out with a 2555kW main engine, as well as 940kW and 360kW gensets, and a 1700kW shaft generator. It will have a 600kW bow thruster and a 465kW stern thruster to aid manoeuvrability at low speeds when retrieving traps.
A specially designed 1.5t/4.7m crane is to be fitted aft for handling traps, along with 3t/10 aft and 1t/8m forward cranes.
Accommodation is for a crew of 38 in single and double cabins, and a gym and sauna are included in the layout.
A passive anti-roll system is included, using marine diesel as the damping fluid.
