Icelandic fishing company Skinney-Thinganes has put a pair of Thyborøn’s new Type 28 doors on board groundfish trawler Thinganes.
These demersal trawl doors come with a hydraulic jack system that enables the crew to adjust the doors while they are hung in the gallows, making it possible to increase or decrease the door surface area as required.
This is the same system as is used with fully remote-controlled trawl doors and represents an important step towards increased automation in the control of demersal trawl doors. Switching to adjustable and partly remote-controlled demersal doors provides operators with the capacity to fine-tune settings and maintain better control under varying conditions.
The installation on board Thinganes is seen as the introduction of new technology in Icelandic groundfish fisheries. The Type 28 doors were supplied by Hampiðjan, Thyborøn Trawldoor’s representative in Iceland.
