A subsidiary of the recycling company Nofir is being established to handle producer responsibility requirements which came into force on 1st January this year.
Grønt Punkt Norge and Profa have agreed to collaborate on new producer responsibility for recreational fishing, commercial fisheries and aquaculture equipment. Grønt Punkt Norge is a non-profit company that has administered producer responsibility for the collection and recycling of packaging, among other things.
‘We have 30 years of experience with producer responsibility and have established systemss for the return scheme for packaging. Nofir, in turn, has extensive experience with the collection and recycling of waste in the blue industries, so we are looking forward to this collaboration,’ said Jaana Røine, CEO of Grønt Punkt Norge.
Nofir CEO Øistein Aleksandersen commented that the two companies complement each other.
‘This makes us even better equipped to deliver on producer responsibility that recently came into effect,’ he said, and stressed that the companies will have time, as the requirement for collection, processing and cost recovery will only apply from March 1, 2027. At the same time, he says that they are well underway with the work.
‘This collaboration has already borne fruit, and it makes us ready to step in as soon as the directorate opens applications for the establishment of producer responsibility companies,’ he said.
In 2025, the company organised meetings for hundreds of industry participants. A few days ago, they brought together key players from across the industry for a joint meeting, when the collaboration was announced.
‘Many have shown interest during these meetings, and there is already a solid foundation of prospective members. This makes us confident that we can deliver on the purpose of the regulation and quickly get started on making the blue industries even a little greener,’ Øistein Aleksandersen said.
