Unique pelagic vessel Libas, developed by Salt Ship Design for Norwegian fishing company Lie Gruppen, has been delivered to its owners by the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.

The 86 metre LOA, 17.80 metre breadth Libas is the world’s first hybrid pelagic vessel, fitted out with a 350 cubic metre MAN Cyro LNG tank, a 6000kW MAN 6L51/60DF main engine, Renk gearbox and a MAN Alpha propeller system, alongside a 500kWh battery system designed specifically for peak shaving during Libas’s fishing operations.

Rigged as a purse seiner and with capacity to tow both single and double trawl gear, Libas has a 2830 cubic metre tank capacity.

According to shipbuilder Cemre, Libas is a pioneering vessel in this field, seen as an environmentally-friendly, safe, efficient, and comfortable pelagic vessel. Its innovative design won the 2018 NorFishing Innovation Award.
