One of HB Grandi’s new trawlers is on the way to Reykjavík, on the end of a towing hawser.
Akurey was fishing deep off the west of Iceland early yesterday morning when assistance was requested from the Icelandic Coast Guard following an engine failure. Coast Guard vessel Thór was docked in Bíldudalur in the west of Iceland and proceeded to Akurey’s position, arriving in the afternoon to secure the tow.
Thór is now on the way to Reykjavík with the disabled Akurey and they are expected to dock there this afternoon.
No details have been made available on the nature of the breakdown on board Akurey, which was delivered last year from Turkey, the second of three identical fresher trawlers built for HB Grandi.
