Westman Islands trawlers Bergey and Vestmannaey have made three full fishroom landings in the space of a single week.
The pair landed their first trips in Thorlákshöfn, followed by a landing in Grindavík and finally in their home port in the Westman Islands.
‘We landed in the Islands on Monday night, and that was almost clean haddock, with a little cod and saithe,’ said Bergey’s skipper Ragnar Waage Pálmason.
He commented that they started on the Selvogur bank and managed three hauls before the spawning season closure came into force, and they shifted to grounds further east.
‘That was a short trip – as most of our trips have been recently, although quite some time went into steaming,’ he said.
Vestmannaey’s skipper Birgir Thór Sverrisson is satisfied with the fishing over the last few days.
‘There’s been heavy fishing and nothing to complain about,’ he said.
‘It went well and the weather was reasonable. There was a stiff wind to begin with, and then fine weather after that. And you can’t not be happy with the catch rates.’
