Lundey NS arrived with 300 tonnes of herring on board and fishing on Atlanto-Scandian herring has just started and this was the first herring of the season to be landed in Vopnafjördur. The fish plant has started its production randomly with the arrival of herring this week.
Magnús Róbertsson, factory manager at the Vopnafjördur plant, said that there is some feed in the fish. He also said that there is plenty to do now that the new feeding-in system has been taken into use for the first time for herring and mackerel, and production lines have been altered to make room for the new automatic filleting machines.
He informed that the plant has started its production with the arrival of Lundey and it has gone well with no problems. He added that the the herring is being processed into butterfly fillets. Ingunn AK is now fishing on herring deep north-east of Vopnafjördur, but the decision was taken to keep Faxi RE back from joining the fishery straight away as the annual Seamen’s Day celebration will be held this coming Sunday.
