According to the information available in January – June 2011, Vietnam pangasius exports reached 319,359 MT, worth US$828.6 million, up 4.9 percent in volume and 27 percent in value on those of the same period last year. The increase in pangasius exports is more favourable because of the rise in fish export price which gave great support to fish farmers, domestic exporters and foreign importers.
During the first six months of 2011, the average pangasius export price reached US$2.59 per kilogram. Fish export price to over 50 markets is higher than the average fish export price. In January – June 2011, fish export volume and value to the Netherlands, Germany and Spain account for more than a half of total fish export volume and value to EU with export value of over US$50 million per country.
During the last five months, fish exports to the country have showed double digit drop (even 50 percent), the country is downgraded to the third rank among the top Vietnam fish importers. While fish exports to the Netherlands remains double digit growth, the country outstrips Spain and Germany to become the biggest Vietnam fish importer in EU block. Vietnam fish exporters keep on expanding their market share to the countries in Eastern Europe, Soviet Union and Mediterranean area.
