Speaking to representatives of fisheries associations, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has laid out the key taks facing the country’s food sectors as a whole, stating that industry reform in line with European Union standards in a key objective.
Vitaliy Koval and Deputy Minister Vitaliy Holovnia told fisheries associations that European integration, opening of new markets for Ukrainian goods, assistance to farmers in the frontline territories, development of animal husbandry and improvement of land reclamation are the challenges they face.
‘Ukraine has all the possibilities for the development of fisheries and increasing the catch of fish to provide for the population. Our goal is that in Ukrainian stores and restaurants, the menu does not include imported fish, but fish grown in Ukrainian aquaculture,’ he said.
‘As for making changes to the legislation, we always keep in mind that our goal is European integration. Any legislative changes that are necessary for the further development of the industry must be simultaneously harmonised with the requirements of European legislation.’
