It is informed that the statistics gives detail information relating to the UK fishing industry and includes facts and figures on the size of the UK fishing fleet, the number of fishermen, PO membership, fishing effort and accidents at sea, the quantity and value of UK sea fish landings, landings by EU member states and the rest of the world quota uptake by EU member states, the quantity and value of fish imported into and exported from the UK, scientific assessments on the sustainability of key fish stocks.
It is said that the report of 2007 has been redesigned and the authority has moved away from a reference volume to produce a more informative publication with greater use of charts and maps. MFA would appreciate public views on the new publication. Copies of the UK Sea Fisheries Statistics 2007 are available on the MFA’s web site. A mini booklet giving an overview of the fishing industry accompanies the report.
The Marine and Fisheries Agency is an executive agency of Defra which is tasked with service delivery, inspection, and enforcement of the fishing industry and other marine users in England and Wales. It is the responsibility of the MFA to enforce the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and its associated regulations within the 60,000 square miles of English and Welsh waters.
