Ghana has registered remarkably record in the export of raw tuna and other fishing products, which gone up from 55,000 to 70,000 metric tonnes last year. Even the export of caned tuna also surged to 50,000 metric tonnes within the same period. Commenting on this the Minister for Fisheries, Gladys Asmah said the figures are impressive as she toured some selected fish processing factories in Tema and Prampram.
Asmah visited the fish processing facilities in order to have first hand information about challenges and prospects of fish processing industries in Ghana. According to her the government of Ghana has planed to partner with the private sector to develop the fishing industry. She assured the fishing companies that the government provides full support to the development of fishing industry.
Asmah visited the Divine Seafood Processing Factory at the fishing harbour area which processes fish flakes and octopus in raw state for export to the European market. She also toured the Ghana Protein Limited, manufacturers of fishmeal and oil for the local market. And at last she went to the West African fishery production and marketing company at Prampram.
She took the stock of the companies in the country and promise to help to increase the export of seafood products and fish.
