Scientific Advisory Committee of ISSF is on expansion with the inclusion of a new appointment of Dr Iago Mosqueira, a scientist with a history of work concentrated on Indian Ocean tuna stocks. Dr. Mosqueira will join a group of 8 scientists currently serving on the Committee in their personal capacities, who advise the ISSF Board of Directors and help guide decisions based upon sound scientific recommendations.
Victor Restrepo, Chair of the ISSF Scientific Advisory Committee, told that the appointment of Dr Mosqueira has greatly enhanced Committee’s scope of expertise. He added that the evolvement of Scientific Advisory Committee put the foundation in a better position to offer more comprehensive advice to a growing Foundation that appreciates the role of science in creating ecologically sustainable tuna fisheries.
The present position of Dr. Mosqueira is at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas), United Kingdom, as a fisheries researcher. He is developing and testing methods for risk-based management of marine fisheries under uncertainty. Until recently, Dr. Mosqueira chaired the Working Party on Tropical Tuna of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission.
