The Head of Science Programme returned from the international seminar «Towards a new governance of high seas biodiversity » held in the Principality of Monaco, March 20-21, 2008. Organised by the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), the seminar aimed to foster interaction between the different disciplines involved and bring together high-level international experts with a view to precisely examining the possible perspectives for better governance of biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. The ICES presentation had covered fisheries issues in the North Atlantic and made a case study for successful cooperation between science and RFMO’s (NEAFC and NAFO). The event was organised in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the French Agency on Marine Protected Areas, the French Global Environmental Facility and with the collaboration of the Maritime and Oceanic Law Centre (University of Nantes).
