Thyborøn skipper Finn Christensen has sold his industrial trawler to replace it with a newer vessel, ready for the sprat season that starts at the end of January.
Finn Christensen and his son Jeppe have sold the Stormy and bought the Haugesund-based Trygvason from Norway, built originally at Karstensens as their newbuild nr 374 as the Western Viking.
The new Stormy is four metres longer, a metre and a half broader and twelve years younger that its predecessor, and has a 3600hp main engine, roughly double the power of the old trawler’s 1800hp.
There are plans to optimise fishing operations and to improve quality, although there will be no big changes to the vessel, which will continue to fish on sprat, sandeel and Norway pout.
With all of the complex paperwork and inspections in hand, Finn and Jeppe Christensen opened the new Stormy up last weekend in Thyborøn for an open ship day for visitors to take a look, with local company Dan-Coat having already touched up Stormy’s distinctive red paintwork.
