fish international 2012: From aquaculture to trawl party
Counter trends and farming technology, in-depth information and expert interviews, products and production processes: at fish international from 12 to 14 February 2012 everything in the Bremen Exhibition Centre will revolve around fish and seafood. In its 13th edition Germany’s only fish trade fair offers tried and tested alongside innovative products to visitors from the food and fish retail sectors, catering, fish import and export as well as fish processing.
One of the very topical issues, for example, is certification in the aquaculture sector. Fish farming is booming worldwide. At the same time, however, consumers are paying increasing attention to producers’ compliance with environmental and social standards. “At fish international we want, for example, to provide information on the importance of eco-labels and on the relevant certification organisations such as the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Global G.A.P.”, says project manager Sabine Wedell. “We know from talking to trade buyers that they are very interested in regional products,” says Ms. Wedell. That is why the exhibition will be placing special emphasis on products from local aquaculture. For the first time in addition to fry, fish feed, etc. the professional world will be able to take a closer look at the appropriate farming technology.
No other fish trade fair shows such a varied range of counter concepts for the retail sector – and the 2012 event will be no exception. In Hall 5 visitors will be able to take a good look at the latest developments and ideas for displaying fish and seafood. And to make the presentation more vivid various fish producers will be filling the counters at the Special Show of the Fish Retail Trade with their specialities.
fish international always has some exciting new ideas to offer to the catering sector and in 2012 one of them will be the premier of the “Seafood Masterclass”. On the „Port Culinaire stage“ acknowledged chefs from top restaurants will perform magic with fish and give Masterclass participants tips and tricks for the future.
The fair takes place every two years. In 2010 it drew about 9,300 professional visitors from 45 countries to the Bremen exhibition centre where 300 exhibitors from 28 nations awaited them. Following the award of the Seafood Star at fish international on Sunday there will for the first time be a “Trawl Party” – yet another opportunity for making contacts at the fair, which for many people is in itself a reason to visit or participate. Ralf Forner, Managing Director of Trans-Gourmet Seafood in Bremerhaven: “Getting together and exchanging information are important reasons for our participation in the fair. The fish world meets in Bremen – and that’s why we like to be there”. The overall concept of fish international and its focus on regionality are also factors that are important to Ralf Forner. “As a German supplier whose customers are based in the Federal Republic we believe in a fair concept that is geared to local traders and consumers.”
