La mission principale d'un patrouilleur de service public est la surveillance des approches maritimes et le contrôle des pêches dans la Manche et la mer du Nord. Il est également employé pour l'assistance et le secours aux personnes, la lutte antipollution ou encore la sécurisation d'évènements nautiques.
