The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (SaWM) closed fishing for herring and sprat in the northern Baltic last month, but has opened the fishery for Gulf of Bothnia by allocating individual quotas for vessels of 15 metres and over, announced Marie Ingerup of the Department for Fisheries Management.

Fishing and processing company Eskja, based in the Icelandic east coast port of Eskifjörður, has contracted Skaginn and a group of partner companies to build a new pelagic processing plant. With a construction time of only six months, the new factory is scheduled to be ready for production in September this year.

Faroes and Iceland agree greater access

Faroese and Icelandic fisheries ministers, Hogni Høydal and Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, have announced an agreement that gives Faroese fishing vessels greater access to Icelandic waters next year as well as increased reciprocal access for both countries to each others’ EEZs.
