Exports of seafood in April totalled NOK 2.9 billion. This is an increase of NOK 380 million or 15% compared with April last year, according to the latest figures from Statistics Norway and the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC). For the year to date, exports of seafood total NOK 12.3 billion, down by NOK 100 million or less than 1% compared with the same period in 2007.
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout doubled in April
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in April totalled NOK 157 million, an increase of 105% or NOK 80 million. Russia is the biggest recipient, with a value of NOK 67 million. Russia also registered the biggest increase of NOK 33 million. Japan, Ukraine and China also increased their imports of Norwegian Fjord Trout. This year to date, exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout total NOK 521 million, an increase of 22%.
Exports of Norwegian Salmon in April totalled NOK 1.3 billion, an increase of 3.4% or NOK 44 million. The biggest increases were in exports to Poland and Russia. France is our biggest importer of Norwegian Salmon, with a value of NOK 226 million. This year to date, exports of Norwegian Salmon total NOK 5.4 billion, down by 3.7%.
Increase in exports of herring and mackerel
Exports of herring in April increased by NOK 82 million or 78% to a value of NOK 186 million. Russia was the biggest recipient, with a value of NOK 67 million. Exports of mackerel in April increased by 8% to NOK 37 million. China, Russia and Japan are the biggest buyers of Norwegian mackerel.
Record exports of salted fish
Exports of salted fish in April totalled NOK 322 million, an increase of 80% or NOK 143 million. Portugal showed the biggest increase, followed by Spain and the Netherlands. Exports of clipfish in April totalled almost NOK 180 million. This is a reduction of 5% compared with the same period last year. The biggest decline was in exports to Portugal, while increases were noted in exports to Brazil and the Dominican Republic.
Portugal biggest export market in April
Seafood exports to Portugal in April totalled NOK 352 million. This is an increase of 23%. France and Russia were the next biggest export markets, while the biggest decline was noted in exports to Denmark.
Exports to the EU in April increased by 9% to a value of just under NOK 2 billion. For the year to date, seafood exports to the EU total NOK 7.5 billion.
