BP oil spill has badly affected the American economy. Fishermen are losing money. Gas stations are losing money. People are running scared. And now the strippers are howling about the loss of business the well blow out is causing. They want to be paid. It is fact that shrimpers and fishermen have lost a great deal of the fishing season, and the income to go along with it.
According to BP press communiqué the company has paid out over $100 million to over 64,000 claimants. The company said that it has paid $104 million to residents along the GulfCoastfor claims filed as a result of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. BP has issued more than 31,000 checks in the past seven weeks. Darryl Willis, of the BP claims team, said that their main focus has been on getting money into the hands of fishermen, shrimpers, condo owners and others who have not been able to earn income due to the spill.
BP has received about 64,000 claims to date. The average time from filing a claim to checks being issued is 4 days for individuals and seven days for more complex business claims that have provided supporting documentation. Willis said BP’s commitment is to move expeditiously and fairly to meet the needs of the residents of the GulfCoast.
