Greenland’s largest processor, Royal Greenland and the country’s largest industry organisation, KNAPK, have just concluded a new, updated cooperation agreement.
According to Royal Greenland and KNAPK, the agreement marks an important step towards closer cooperation designed to benefit both fishermen and Royal Greenland.
The agreement covers co-operation key areas, including to ensure sustainable regulation of coastal fishing and to support the clean-up of lost fishing gear. Experimental fishing to utilise unexploited fish species in Greenlandic waters, opening opportunities for new sources of income and expanding the basis for Greenlandic products, is also within the remit of the agreement. A particular focus is on the development of the market for Greenlandic products around the world.
‘We look forward to working together to ensure that our common interests in food safety and quality are paramount, while at the same time creating the best conditions for the many fishermen who help secure raw materials for production at Royal Greenland every single day,’ a Royal Greenland representative commented.
‘This agreement is based on mutual respect and understanding that we have common goals. With a strengthened co-operation framework, we look forward to jointly contributing to a sustainable and future-proof fishing industry in Greenland.’
