Lundey NS is now steaming to Vopnafjördur with full tanks of between 1200 and 1300 tonnes of blue whiting caught in four hauls in three days. Lundey was fishing in the so-called grey zone between UK and Faroese EEZs.
Skipper Arnthór Hjörleifsson and his crew had completed the final haul around midday yesterday, leaving 30 hours steaming to Vopnafjördur.
‘Fishing was fine up until yesterday when things slowed down,’ said Arnthór Hjörleifsson when we spoke to him yesterday. Weather conditions were perfect as Lundey was located 82 nautical miles south of the southern tip of the Faroe Islands.
‘In the trip before we had 1550 tonnes in four hauls over two and a half days, so it shows that fishing has slowed down. Otherwise, the fish is much the same. Here the fish are smaller than they are further south or west of Ireland,’ Arnthór Hjörleifsson said and added that all of their fish was caught between 200 and 270 fathoms.
