Sodexo has planned to purchase sustainable wild-caught seafood by 2015 as the demand for sustainable seafood is gaming momentum. The food service company has collaborated with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and plans its purchase ofwild-caught seafood.
It is told that Sodexo serves food and manages facilities at 6,000 offices, schools, hospitals and other locations in North America. The company is currently purchases more than 20 million pounds of wild-caught and farmed seafood a year. It is expected that by 2015, Sodexo plans to source all of its wild-caught seafood from fisheries that have been certified by the MSC. The non-profit organization’s certification process uses third-party fishery assessments, and more than 2,800 seafood products carry the MSC’s label.
Experts believe that the collaboration with the MSC is one of many steps that Sodexo has taken toward sustainability. Besides, there are other important steps that the company has taken to ensure the sustainable seafood supply.
