HB Grandi has 5500 tonnes remaining of its capelin quota, equivalent to one more trip for each of its four pelagic vessels. The indications are there that all of this season’s catch will be processed for roe extraction to supply markets in Eastern Europe and Japan.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, capelin catches have so far come to 15,000 tonnes.
Ingunn AK was expected to have completed landing and the fish to have been processed for roe extraction at Vopnafjördur last night, while Faxi RE’s catch was being processed at Akranes. Víkingur AK was steaming to Vopnafjördur and scheduled to arrive last night, while Lundey NS was due at Akranes at the same time.
‘Roe production has gone well both at Vopnafjördur and Akranes. The roe content has been 22.50% and this has been at the right development stage to satisfy our Japanese customers,’ he said.
