The 14-page document focuses on the importance the SFF attaches to environmental protection and on its desire to achieve sustainability in all the fisheries that its members participate in.
The launch of the policy statement is part of a major drive by the Federation to highlight to marine stakeholders and the general public that Scottish fishermen take their environmental responsibilities very seriously and are committed to a sustainable future.
Bertie Armstrong, SFF chief executive, said: “The Scottish fishing industry is leading the way in Europe in developing innovative measures to ensure a sustainable future for the industry.
“The launch of this policy document is a marker to this commitment to the environment.”
The document includes a six-point pledge on sustainability and outlines the steps Scottish fishermen are taking to improve the sustainability of the principal fisheries sectors. It outlines its commitment to work closely with marine scientists and the importance of efficient monitoring and compliance.
Meanwhile, Mr Armstrong will tell guests at the annual dinner, which will be attended by Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead, that there has never been a more important time for Scotland to reap the advantages of a sustainable and viable fishing industry that harvests world-class seafood
