The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation will tomorrow (31 August) host a visit to Peterhead of the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICE) so as to enhance their understanding of the key issues facing the fishing industry.
SPICE comprises research specialists employed by the Scottish Parliament to provide briefings for use by MSPs to support parliamentary business. Their remit includes fisheries, and the visit will give the delegation the opportunity to see at first hand the workings of the sector. The trip will include a tour of the pelagic fishing vessel Quantus, as well as a visit to the Caley Fisheries processing plant to see herring being processed. A whitefish or prawn boat will also be taken in during the tour, as well as a meeting with Peterhead Port Authority.
Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the SFF, said: “This visit provides an excellent opportunity to refine the information received by the Scottish Parliament on how the industry operates and the major areas of concern. Whilst the visit is being hosted in Peterhead, the briefings given will cover all aspects, areas and sectors of the Scottish fish-catching industry.”
