For the second time this year, the Argentinian Coast Guard has detected the presence of a foreign trawler straying into the country’s EEZ.
Spanish trawler Playa Da Cativa was monitored operating inside national waters for 45 minutes at a speed of four knots, seen as consistent with trawling speed and therefore active fishing in progress.

A few days previous to this incursion across the 200-mile limit, Argentina’s National Maritime Authority had contacted Playa da Cativa, notifying the skipper that a safety margin should be maintained to prevent his vessel crossing the line into national waters. This notification was acknowledged.
Earlier this year the Argentinian authorities reported that a trawler observed operating inside the country’s EEZ for a brief period was the Vanuatu-registered Boa Feng, detected by the Ministry of Security’s observation systems.
In a similar pattern, Boa Feng also manoeuvred along the 200-mile limit, straying into national waters, operating at a speed of under four knots, and was presumed to have been fishing.
