The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has applauded Seafish for its development of SIN which will serve as an important step towards the development of sea food industry. It is true that everyday seafood businesses faced challenges globally and are often either incremental or long-term in nature, meaning that similar problems are usually being faced by other parties in the market.
Tom Rossiter, Research and Development Manager at Seafish, explained that with SIN Seafish has created a user-friendly tool for the industry to find the relevant information from one source. He added that SIN is multi-functional and offers our industry partners a vast array of capabilities, including a seafood industry search engine, user specific news updates, an events calendar, equipment guides, a bulletin board and desktop web conferencing facilities.
John Rutherford, CEO at Seafish, opined that the Seafood Information Network (SIN) is part of Seafish’s renewed focus on listening to the needs of the industry partners and taking action. He further said that consultation with industry revealed a requirement for a one-stop, easy-to-use comprehensive database of information about seafood, and that is what SIN delivers.
He added that the launch of SIN forms an important part of the next stage in the development of Seafish as the voice of the UK seafood industry. Grimur Valdimarsson, Director of Fish Products and Industry at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), told that SIN will provide unbiased and authoritative information relating to safety, quality, nutrition, as well as environmental profiles of the seafood industry.
