Just check in to any fish shops and get your share of the fishermen’s catch and cherish the festive season with great joy. Whether you’re partial to a prawn, are a fish fanatic, or you tend to throw your support behind scallops, there are so many reasons why seafood should be topping your Christmas list.
Fisheries Queensland industry development general manager Robin Hansen said due to fishers having an abundant year, there were many different types of prawns to choose from. He said that Queenslanders are really lucky to have such a high-quality selection of prawns with unique flavours. Queensland scallops are prized worldwide for their quality and taste so we are lucky to have them available on our doorstep, Hansen said.
Hansen said bugs and sumptuous oysters from the clean waters off Queensland’s coastline, and fish plucked fresh from the Coral Sea, were also available this season. He also told that a good flow of Moreton Bay Rock Oysters, also known as Sydney Rock Oysters, are infiltrating seafood markets. Consumers should expect these oysters to be plump, creamy, and ocean-fresh.
Many fish species are an excellent source of Omega 3 – the good fat that is essential for your brain to boost memory and concentration. The Omega-3 found in oil-rich fish, such as mullet, helps to keep your skin clear and is great for healthy looking hair. This fat is also friendly on the waist line – a huge plus for indulgence without the after-effects this Christmas.
