Seafood export from Norway touched NOK 7 billion, an increase of NOK 634 billion or 10 percent compared to the same period in 2008. According to the figures from Statistics Norway and the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) exports for the month of February amounted to NOK 3.5 billion, which is an increase of NOK 292 million. New export records have been set for both the month of February, as well as for the period January to February. Egil Ove Sundheim, Director of Marketing Information with the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, explained that a stronger price for fresh Norwegian Salmon and an increase in price for herring and mackerel are providing an extremely positive impression for the first two months of the year. He added that the positive impression is balanced with a very challenging situation for cod products which have declined by 200 million NOK compared to the same period in 2008. Exports of salmon registered record value NOK 3 billion, which is an increase of NOK 340 million compared to the same period last year. Norwegian Fjord Trout also increased by NOK 63 million to a combined total export value of NOK 293 million. This growth for Norwegian Fjord Trout is also explained by stable Volumes and increased prices. The export of cod has been reduced by nearly NOK 200 million so far this year. Exports fell from NOK 1.1 billion to 900 million. The greatest decline is for salted cod with a reduction of NOK 124 million to a combined value of NOK 80 million. Frozen filets have been reduced by NOK 85 million to NOK 88 million.
